Intelligian Tutoring is a private tutoring company specialising in individualised support across subjects such as Mathematics, English, Sciences, Accounting, and mentoring for learners in grades 1 to 12. Tutors are selected for their strong understanding of the South African school curriculum and university entrance requirements. Role Description

This is a part-time, on-site Grade 9 English Home Language Tutor role based in Randburg. The tutor will provide one-on-one or small-group English Home Language lessons aligned with the South African Grade 9 curriculum, including IEB, CAPS, and Cambridge, where relevant. Daily responsibilities include planning and delivering engaging lessons, explaining key language and literature concepts, and supporting learners in reading, writing, grammar, and comprehension. The tutor will assess learner progress through informal checks and homework support, provide constructive feedback, and adjust teaching strategies to meet individual needs. The role also involves communicating regularly with the Intelligian team, maintaining accurate lesson records, and fostering a motivating, respectful learning environment.

Qualifications

• Strong tutoring skills, including experience with in-person Tutoring and, ideally, Online Tutoring where needed.
• Demonstrated English Teaching abilities, specifically in Grade 9 English Home Language or similar levels.
• Excellent Communication and Teaching skills to explain concepts clearly and build rapport with learners and caregivers.
• Sound knowledge of the South African school curriculum (IEB, CAPS, and/or Cambridge) and Grade 9 English Home Language requirements.
• Completed or in-progress tertiary studies in Education, English, Linguistics, or a related field is preferred.
• Proven experience working with high school learners, with the ability to differentiate instruction for varied learning styles and levels.
• Reliable, punctual, and organised, with the ability to prepare lessons, track progress, and adhere to Intelligian’s standards.
• Commitment to learner-centred, inclusive practices that support academic resilience and a positive attitude toward English.
