Junior In - House Legal Advisor

The Junior In-House Legal Advisor will provide legal and regulatory support to the business, with a particular focus on labour law and compliance within the public transport sector. The successful candidate will assist in overseeing labour disputes and disciplinary processes, motor vehicle accident claims and litigation, and ensuring compliance of in-house policies, procedures and applicable legislation.
- Provide legal support and advice on day-to-day operational and employment-related matters.
- Handle and/or assist with disciplinary matters and labour disputes before the bargaining council and CCMA.
- Assist with disciplinary processes, grievances, and investigations.
- Advise management on compliance in respect of applicable labour legislation, including the Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, and Employment Equity Act, Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
- Draft, review, and update employment contracts, policies, procedures, and related documentation.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with transport-related legislation and regulatory requirements, including AARTO, the National Land Transport Act and operating licence requirements.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, service level agreements, and supplier contracts.
- Support the management of litigation matters and coordinate with external attorneys and counsel where necessary.
- Monitor developments in labour, transport, and related legislation and provide updates.
- Promote legal compliance and risk management throughout the organisation.
- Maintain an in-depth understanding of all transport operating contracts within the business, to ensure compliance, risk management, and adherence to contractual obligations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree.
- Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
- 2–4 years’ relevant post-qualification experience, preferably in labour law and litigation.
- Experience dealing with bargaining council and/or CCMA matters and transport legislation.
ADVANTEGEOUS EXPERIENCE
- Exposure to unionised work environments.
- Knowledge of labour and occupational health and safety legislation and compliance requirements.
- Experience within the transport, logistics, or fleet management environment.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
- Sound knowledge of South African transport and labour legislation, including dispute resolution procedures.
- Strong litigation ability.
- Ability to manage disciplinary and employee relations matters effectively.
- Good understanding of compliance requirements within regulated industries.
- Strong drafting and analytical, skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple matters simultaneously.
