POSITION INFO
Our client, a leading specialist paediatric academic hospital, is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Medical Officer - Radiology to join their dynamic Radiology Department on a 12-month fixed-term contract . This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated medical practitioner with radiology experience to contribute to the delivery of high-quality diagnostic imaging services within a specialised paediatric healthcare environment. The successful candidate will work closely with Specialist Radiologists and multidisciplinary teams to support exceptional patient care while participating in academic, clinical governance, and quality improvement activities. Key Responsibilities Clinical Service Delivery Provide clinical support within the Radiology Department in accordance with established protocols and best practice guidelines. Assist in the performance and coordination of diagnostic imaging procedures, including X-ray, CT, ultrasound, and other imaging modalities where appropriate. Support the interpretation and reporting of radiological studies under the supervision of Specialist Radiologists. Ensure appropriate patient preparation and the availability of relevant clinical information prior to imaging procedures. Participate in multidisciplinary patient management discussions by providing radiological input. Maintain accurate documentation of imaging requests, findings, and reports within hospital information systems. Contribute to the efficient management of departmental workflow to ensure optimal service delivery. Patient Safety and Quality Assurance Promote adherence to radiation protection and safety standards. Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control protocols. Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and quality improvement initiatives. Uphold patient confidentiality and ethical standards in accordance with professional and regulatory requirements. Operational and Administrative Support Participate in departmental meetings, case discussions, and clinical governance activities. Assist in coordinating imaging services across the hospital. Provide support and supervision to junior staff where applicable. Participate in after-hours, weekend, and on-call duties as required. Academic and Professional Development Engage in continuous professional development and clinical training activities. Contribute to case presentations, departmental teaching programmes, and academic discussions. Support the hospital''s academic and research initiatives where applicable. Minimum Requirements Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate. MBChB or equivalent medical qualification recognised in South Africa. Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Independent Medical Practitioner. Completion of Community Service. A minimum of five (5) years'' experience as a Medical Practitioner. At least three (3) years'' experience within Radiology . Experience within a hospital environment. Demonstrated interest or exposure to Radiology will be advantageous. Knowledge, Skills and Competencies Strong clinical reasoning and diagnostic skills. Sound knowledge of medical imaging principles and patient management. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Strong organisational and time-management skills. Ability to perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced healthcare environment. High levels of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
