Introduction

A well-established and fast-growing business within the apparel and branded clothing industry is seeking to appoint a dynamic and commercially driven Branch Sales Manager for their Johannesburg branch.

This is a senior leadership role suited to an experienced individual with strong sales, merchandising, trading, operational, and people management experience who can take full accountability for branch performance, customer relationships, operational excellence, and business growth.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in driving turnover, managing branch operations, leading teams, strengthening customer relationships, and ensuring the branch operates at the highest possible standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Identify market trends and opportunities to improve and enhance product performance
  • Drive brand achievement and branch growth
  • Identify and develop opportunities to strengthen the company’s position within the South African market
  • Create and implement strategic customer call plans
  • Oversee the opening of new customer accounts approved by senior management
  • Build and manage strong customer relationships for mutual benefit
  • Ensure merchandise and sample implementation aligns with customer strategies and briefs

Customer Service

  • Drive exceptional customer service standards across the branch
  • Develop staff competence to optimise customer satisfaction and sales performance
  • Resolve customer complaints through direct involvement where necessary
  • Ensure long-term customer retention and relationship management

Business Leadership

  • Implement and manage branch projects as identified by the National Sales Manager
  • Ensure company processes, procedures, and operational activities are implemented within agreed timelines
  • Identify underperforming products, departments, or customer segments and implement corrective business plans
  • Continuously analyse local market conditions and customer activity to make strategic business recommendations
  • Participate in monthly leadership review meetings with reporting, accountability, follow-up, and action planning

Operations Management

  • Lead and motivate departmental teams to increase sales and operational efficiencies
  • Ensure 100% on-time delivery and service standards
  • Oversee overall branch operations including administration, staffing, and cost control
  • Implement and enforce operational policies and procedures
  • Ensure branch standards and company compliance are consistently maintained

People Management

  • Communicate business objectives and operational goals clearly to departmental managers and staff
  • Identify and implement staff training and development initiatives
  • Recruit and onboard suitable employees aligned to company culture and operational requirements
  • Manage employee performance, coaching, development, and succession planning
  • Handle employee relations matters in conjunction with HR, including disciplinary, grievance, and counselling processes
  • Create a positive and high-performance working environment focused on employee retention and growth

Financial Overview

  • Analyse sales figures and forecast future sales performance
  • Drive branch turnover and profitability
  • Implement and maintain stock control procedures and policies
  • Monitor operational expenses and manage branch costs against budget
  • Ensure accurate weekly and monthly reporting

Reporting

Prepare and present reports on:

  • Weekly and monthly trade
  • Customer visit feedback
  • Competitor activity
  • Market trends and business insights

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Minimum 5 years’ sales merchandising / trading experience
  • Experience within the clothing / apparel industry preferred
  • Strong branch management and leadership experience
  • Strong business acumen and commercial understanding
  • Understanding of stock / sales ratios and operational controls
  • Strong coaching and people management ability
  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and evolving environment
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Results-driven and operationally focused
  • Strong customer relationship management skills

Package & Remuneration

Salary: R45,000 – R50,000 CTC

Location: Johannesburg (Sandton)
