Introduction
A dynamic and fast-growing business within the fashion and apparel industry is looking to appoint a highly organised, creative, and driven Junior Fashion Merchandiser to join their team in Durban.
This opportunity is ideal for an individual passionate about fashion, product development, trend analysis, and merchandising, who is looking to further develop their career within a fast-paced and commercially driven environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Fashion Merchandiser and wider merchandise, buying, and production teams to assist with seasonal product development, sales analysis, sample management, and supplier coordination.
Duties & Responsibilities
Business & Sales Support
- Assist with identifying fashion and retail trends to improve product performance and drive sales growth
- Support the achievement of monthly and seasonal sales targets
- Review customer sales performance and assist in developing action plans to improve results
- Monitor competitor activity and market conditions to identify new opportunities
- Assist with identifying and developing new customer opportunities
Product Development & Trend Research
- Analyse historical and current fashion trends
- Conduct market and seasonal research relating to colour, fabric, silhouette, and product lifecycle trends
- Assist with compiling product briefs for upcoming seasonal requirements
- Support the conceptualisation and development of product samples for range presentations
Merchandising & Production Coordination
- Assist with the presentation of attractive and commercially viable product ranges
- Liaise with Buyers, Merchandise Planners, Product Merchandisers, suppliers, and internal teams
- Assist with negotiating pricing, quantities, and delivery timelines
- Process and manage customer orders accurately
- Attend production and merchandise meetings where required
Sample Procurement & Quality Control
- Coordinate the procurement and approval of samples
- Prepare accurate garment briefs for suppliers
- Manage QA samples, lab dips, strike-offs, and fabric approvals
- Coordinate communication between buyers, suppliers, and internal departments
- Follow up on pre-production and bulk production approvals
- Track sales performance and product movement post-delivery
Administration & Coordination
- Assist with new account administration and contract preparation
- Ensure payment terms and account details are communicated internally
- Maintain strong communication across all departments and stakeholders
- Manage multiple projects, timelines, and deadlines simultaneously
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Previous experience within Fashion Merchandising, Fashion Retail, Apparel, Clothing Manufacturing, or Product Coordination advantageous
- Relevant qualification in Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, Retail, Clothing Production, or similar preferred
- Strong passion for fashion and current market trends
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal ability
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure
- Strong commercial awareness and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Package & Remuneration
- R25,000 – R30,000 CTC depending on experience
