A well-established and reputable FMCG manufacturing & distribution group requires an experienced DEPOT MANAGER, based in Alberton, to take full responsibility for branch performance, sales growth, operational efficiency, and profitability within a high-volume cold chain environment.
This is a hands-on leadership role, requiring a strong balance between sales execution (market-facing) and operational management (branch control, stock, distribution, and staff performance).
Branch & Financial Management
- Take full accountability for the branch income statement, profitability, and cost control
- Manage and optimise branch operations to achieve monthly and annual targets
- Implement cost-saving initiatives and operational efficiencies
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and strategic objectives
Sales & Market Development (±60%)
- Drive sales performance, revenue growth, and market penetration
- Develop and implement regional sales and marketing strategies
- Manage and grow key accounts and customer relationships
- Ensure effective merchandising, promotions, and brand visibility
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer behaviour
Operations, Logistics & Cold Chain Management (±40%)
- Oversee daily depot operations, including dispatch, distribution, and stock flow
- Ensure accurate, on-time loading and delivery of products
- Coordinate closely with production, logistics, and distribution teams
- Optimise route planning, fleet utilisation, and delivery efficiencies
- Maintain cold chain integrity and product quality standards
Stock Control & Inventory Management
- Full responsibility for stock control, rotation (FIFO), and accuracy
- Monitor daily stock movements (receipts, returns, sales, and variances)
- Manage shrinkage, waste, crates, pallets, and stock losses
- Ensure accurate reporting and reconciliation of stock
People & Performance Management
- Lead, manage, and develop a team of approximately 100–150 staff
- Drive staff productivity, attendance, and performance output
- Implement training, development, and succession planning initiatives
- Foster a high-performance, accountable, and engaged workforce
Service & Stakeholder Management
- Ensure high levels of customer service and on-time delivery performance
- Build strong relationships with customers, service providers, and key accounts
- Act as the link between sales, operations, and distribution
- Resolve operational and customer issues effectively and timeously
- Relevant Business / Supply Chain / Management qualification (advantageous)
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in FMCG / Cold Chain / Depot or Branch Management
- At least 3 years in a senior management / leadership role
- Proven track record in sales growth, operational management, and team leadership
- Strong understanding of distribution, logistics, and supply chain processes
- Experience managing large teams in high-volume environments
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel essential) and ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Syspro, etc.)
- Valid driver’s licence (essential)
