Our client, a leading provider of transport refrigeration and cold chain solutions, is seeking a skilled Refrigeration Technician to join their technical team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, servicing, maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of truck refrigeration units, ensuring maximum equipment reliability and minimal downtime for customers operating within the cold chain and logistics sectors.

This role is ideal for a hands-on technician with experience working on transport refrigeration systems such as GEA, Carrier Transicold, Thermo King, Zanotti, or similar refrigeration equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Refrigeration Maintenance & Repairs

• Diagnose, service, repair, and maintain truck refrigeration units.
• Conduct preventative and breakdown maintenance on refrigeration systems.
• Perform fault finding on electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration components.
• Repair compressors, condensers, evaporators, control systems, and refrigeration circuits.
• Troubleshoot refrigeration system failures and implement effective solutions.
• Ensure all repairs are completed to manufacturer and industry standards.

Technical Diagnostics

• Conduct advanced fault finding using diagnostic equipment.
• Identify electrical and refrigeration-related issues quickly and accurately.
• Test refrigeration systems to verify operational performance.
• Complete commissioning and performance testing following repairs.

Workshop & Field Service

• Attend to breakdowns and service calls at customer sites when required.
• Carry out workshop-based repairs and maintenance.
• Maintain accurate service records and job cards.
• Ensure tools, equipment, and work areas are maintained in a clean and safe condition.

Customer Service & Support

• Provide technical advice and support to customers.
• Communicate repair requirements and recommendations clearly.
• Build strong relationships with customers through professional service delivery.
• Ensure customer equipment is returned in optimal operating condition.

Health & Safety

• Adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
• Ensure compliance with refrigeration gas handling and environmental regulations.
• Follow company safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE.
• Report hazards, incidents, and equipment concerns promptly.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric).
• Refrigeration Trade Test or relevant Refrigeration Qualification.
• Minimum 3–5 years' experience working on truck refrigeration units.
• Proven experience repairing and servicing transport refrigeration systems.
• Experience with GEA, Carrier Transicold, Thermo King, Zanotti, or similar refrigeration equipment.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Knowledge of refrigeration systems, electrical controls, and mechanical components.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Willingness to work overtime and attend breakdown call-outs when required.
• Computer literacy and ability to complete service documentation.
