SUMMARY
Meat Traders Abattoir (Pty) Ltd is seeking an experienced
Hygiene
Manager to oversee and drive hygiene, food safety and quality standards across the abattoir. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards and customer requirements in all departments.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, implement and continuously improve health, safety and hygiene plans, programmes and procedures.
- Supervise hygiene controllers and cleaners and ensure duties are carried out to standard.
- Coordinate and facilitate employee safety and hygiene training.
- Ensure all facilities operate with effective safety and hygiene systems.
- Conduct statutory inspections and internal audits to ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
- Oversee internal safety and hygiene audits and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure all meat is handled, stored and transported in line with hygiene and food safety requirements.
- Perform reasonable ad hoc duties related to hygiene, safety and quality as required.
POSITION INFO
Minimum requirements Education Bachelor's degree or relevant tertiary qualification in a related field. Food Safety Certification(s) such as ISO9001, ISO18000, ISO22000, HACCP and Hygiene Practices (essential). Experience and skills Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a wholesale and/or retail environment, preferably in meat or food processing. At least 2 years' managerial experience in a similar hygiene, quality or food safety role. Experience in internal auditing. Computer literacy: Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Abaserve. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Fluent in English (essential); isiXhosa proficiency advantageous. Strong interpersonal, leadership and people management skills. Highly organised, able to work under pressure with excellent time management. Passion for production, quality and continuous improvement. Valid Code 8 driver's licence and own reliable transport.
