About The Role
Our client, a global leader in security ink technologies and anti-counterfeiting solutions, is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join their Currency Security Solutions division based in Pretoria. This role is responsible for conducting ink testing, supporting production processes, maintaining laboratory equipment accuracy, and ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and operational standards. The successful candidate will work closely with production and technical teams to ensure products consistently meet customer and company specifications.

What you'll be doing Laboratory Testing & Colour Matching Perform routine and specialised testing on ink samples. Evaluate properties such as viscosity, colour strength, drying time, tack, and other critical quality parameters. Conduct colour matching and visual colour assessments. Instrument Calibration & Validation Conduct regular calibration and validation of laboratory instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability of results. Quality Control & Compliance Monitor ink batches and laboratory processes to ensure compliance with specifications. Identify deviations and implement corrective actions where required. Label, retain, and manage samples according to company procedures. Ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and quality standards. Statistical Process Control (SPC) Apply SPC techniques to analyze process trends and variations. Support continuous improvement initiatives through data analysis. Production Support Assist production teams with sample preparation and batch monitoring. Support production planning activities and process order management. Issue process orders to production. Monitor customer deadlines and production schedules. Investigate and resolve ink-related production issues. SAP Administration Create and release process orders. Capture and maintain batch measurement results. Complete all required SAP transactions for production batches. Monitor raw material stock levels and report discrepancies. Participate in quarterly stock counts. Materials & Inventory Manage incoming materials from suppliers. Verify documentation and ensure correct storage and handling practices. Laboratory Housekeeping & Safety Maintain a clean, organised, and contamination-free laboratory environment. Adhere to all health and safety requirements and procedures. Assist during medical and fire emergencies where required. Apply First Aid and firefighting measures where trained Additional Responsibilities Participate in Internal ISO Audits. Support First Aid and Fire Fighting initiatives. What you'll need National Diploma or Degree in Chemistry or equivalent qualification. Minimum 2 years' experience within the ink industry. Experience in laboratory testing and/or production support environments. Technical understanding of ink chemistry and formulation. Knowledge of colour matching techniques and visual colour assessment. Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC). Understanding of Quality Assurance testing methods. Functional knowledge of SAP. Basic understanding of printing processes. Strong report writing and documentation skills. Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and precision. Strong organisational and interpersonal skills. Motivated, honest, punctual, and dependable. What is in it for you?
