Our client, a respected educational institution in South East London, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Full-time Deputy Headteacher to join their dynamic team. This role will focus on supporting students with special educational needs (SEN), social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges, as well as those in alternative provision.
As the Deputy Headteacher, you will be a key member of the school's leadership team, working closely with the Headteacher to shape the strategic vision and ensure the smooth and effective running of the school. You will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, with a particular emphasis on supporting students with diverse learning needs and promoting a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Your Primary Responsibilities Will Include
- Providing strong and visionary leadership to the school, collaborating with the Headteacher to develop and implement strategies that drive academic excellence and positive outcomes for all students.
- Overseeing the delivery of the curriculum, ensuring it is tailored to the unique needs of the school's student population, with a focus on SEN, SEMH, and alternative provision.
- Fostering a positive and supportive school culture, where students feel valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.
- Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of teaching and learning, providing constructive feedback and support to teaching staff to enhance their practice.
- Developing and implementing robust systems for tracking student progress, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing targeted interventions to address individual needs.
- Liaising with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure a collaborative and holistic approach to supporting students' academic, social, and emotional well-being.
- Promoting and maintaining high standards of behaviour and discipline, while also championing a restorative approach that prioritises the well-being of students.
- Overseeing the school's safeguarding and child protection procedures, ensuring the safety and welfare of all students.
- Representing the school at external events, meetings, and forums, advocating for the needs of students with SEN, SEMH, and those in alternative provision.
- Providing line management and professional development opportunities for teaching and support staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Effectively managing the school's resources, including budgets and premises, to ensure the optimal use of funds and facilities.
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:
- Extensive experience as a senior leader in the education sector, with a proven track record of driving positive change and improving outcomes for students with SEN, SEMH, and those in alternative provision.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of the latest educational policies, regulations, and best practices related to supporting students with diverse needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, coupled with the resilience to navigate challenging situations with empathy and professionalism.
- A deep commitment to promoting inclusive and equitable practices, and a passion for ensuring all students have access to high-quality educational opportunities.
- Exceptional organisational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, delegate effectively, and ensure the efficient running of the school.
- A postgraduate qualification in education, such as a Master's degree or a professional qualification in SEND or a related field, would be highly desirable.
