Role Purpose

We are seeking a skilled and motivated BI Developer to join our Finance Automation, Data and BI Team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for data analysis, a strong understanding of finance and business processes, and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights. The BI Developer role will be required to address business queries through the effective and meaningful translation, collection and analysis of raw company data and to communicate these results to enhance the decision-making process. The BI Developer will examine and evaluate reporting requirements for various stakeholders across Momentum Investments, including Finance and Tax, and will contribute to improving data quality, reporting consistency, automation and insight-led decision-making across the business.

Requirements

  • B. Com or B.Sc. degree or other relevant qualification in computer science, data science, Information Systems, Finance, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a BI developer, or Business Analyst or Data Analyst in a BI or analytics-focused role.
  • Three years relevant experience required.
  • Proficiency in SQL for data querying and manipulation.
  • Microsoft BI skills. Particularly SSAS tabular model design and implementation, Reporting Services and Integration services.
  • Database design and Warehousing.
  • PowerBI
  • Proven experience of using AI to work more effectively.
  • Experience working with finance, regulatory, or management reporting data will be advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to derive insights from complex datasets.
  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment.

Advantageous

  • Post graduate degree in relevant field would be beneficial.
  • Technical certifications in data and analytics.
  • Experience with the Kimball Dimensional Methodology.
  • Exposure to modern data, analytics and automation platforms, with an interest in continually improving how reporting and insight solutions are delivered.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and gather requirements for BI solutions.
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications for BI development.
  • The developer will design and create end to end Business intelligence solutions from ETL, SSAS cubes to Microsoft Power BI or SSRS reports and dashboards.
  • The individual will also be responsible for proactively generating and compiling reports based on his or her findings, complete with recommended improvements to- or new requirements for – business processes, operational procedures, and their corresponding reporting structures. The developer should therefore be able to interpret the reports that he or she produces.
  • The developer must work with other technology teams and business analysts where applicable to scope and prioritise development efforts necessary to deliver reporting for various business units
  • The analysis of reporting requirements as defined by business and documenting the desired solution and/or recommendations. This includes translation of reporting requirements between business and the technology and tools necessary to deliver on those requirements.
  • Ensure a high level of quality is achieved by performing constant testing and reviews of reports implemented. This includes doing performance optimisation of existing SQL code, ETL processes or improving solution design.
  • Interact with existing reporting resources and ensure a single reporting strategy is maintained
  • Monitor SQL server jobs and interact with other technology teams and database administrators to ensure that reporting continuity is maintained
  • Participate in the change process to improve efficiency of testing
  • Formalise communication to ensure reporting on deliverables
  • Ensure signoff on all reporting deliverables according to business specifications
  • Report and estimate development timelines
  • Maintenance and operational support of existing dashboards and reports
  • Analyse large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that drive business decisions, and understand the granular detail as part of the analysis phase and subsequent solution invention process.
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis to answer specific business questions and address stakeholders' inquiries.
  • Contribute to the automation and optimisation of finance and reporting processes by identifying opportunities to reduce manual effort, improve control, and enhance the availability of trusted data for decision-making.

Quality Assurance and Testing

  • Conduct thorough testing of BI solutions to ensure accuracy, reliability, and performance.
  • Testing and validation of financial reports developed to make sure it meets financial assertions of completeness, accuracy, and validity.
  • Support strong data governance and control practices by validating data sources, reconciling outputs where required, and helping to maintain confidence in management and regulatory reporting.

Documentation and Training

  • Document business requirements, data definitions, and report specifications for reference and training purposes.
  • Provide training and support to end-users on BI tools and reports.

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in business intelligence and analytics.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Continually build and enhance knowledge of reporting technologies.

Collaboration

  • Collaborating with cross functional teams, including IT professionals, other business analysts, and finance professionals to deliver effective solutions.
  • Build trusted relationships with stakeholders across Finance, Tax, and other business areas, with the ability to engage confidently at both detailed operational and broader management reporting level.
