SUMMARY

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys hands‑on farm work as much as being on the tools. While your main focus will be on preventative and reactive maintenance – from buildings and equipment to electrical, water and feed systems – you’ll also be actively involved in day‑to‑day piggery farming activities, working closely with the Farm Manager and production team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement and manage a preventative maintenance schedule for buildings, equipment and infrastructure across the piggery.
  • Respond to breakdowns, diagnose faults and carry out or coordinate repairs in a timeous manner.
  • Maintain and improve the wet feeding system; troubleshoot issues and liaise with service providers where necessary.
  • Conduct regular inspections of machinery, vehicles, water, electrical and structural systems to identify risks and maintenance needs.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, job cards and asset registers.
  • Control maintenance stock, tools and spares; source quotations and assist with ordering of parts.
  • Work closely with the Farm Manager and piggery teams to minimise downtime and support production requirements.
  • Ensure that all maintenance work is carried out safely, in line with health, safety and biosecurity procedures.

POSITION INFO

Minimum requirements Matric (Grade 12) plus a relevant technical/maintenance qualification or trade (e.g. fitter, millwright, electrician, general maintenance). Proven experience in a maintenance role on a farm or similar agricultural / industrial environment. Previous experience in pig production or intensive livestock production will be a strong advantage. Experience working with wet feeding systems will be highly advantageous. Strong hands‑on ability in fault‑finding, repairs and general maintenance (mechanical, basic electrical and structural). Ability to develop and run a preventative maintenance plan. Good problem‑solving skills with a practical, "can‑do" approach. Computer literacy for basic reporting and maintenance records. Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport. Willingness to work on site, be hands‑on in the piggery and be available for call‑outs when required. Personal attributes Proactive, organised and able to prioritise work under pressure. Strong communication and teamwork skills; able to work closely with farm staff and management. High level of integrity, reliability and attention to detail. Passionate about farming and working with animals in a production environment.
