Our client, a leading supply chain, vehicle logistics, warehousing, and distribution company, is seeking a reliable and hands-on Contract General Assistant with mechanical knowledge and skills to support workshop, fleet, vehicle preparation, warehousing, and operational activities. The successful candidate will assist with basic mechanical tasks, vehicle inspections, maintenance support, and general operational duties while ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and productivity. Minimum Requirements Grade 12 (Matric). Minimum 1-3 years' experience in a mechanical, workshop, automotive, logistics, or related environment. Basic mechanical knowledge and practical skills. Ability to use hand tools and workshop equipment safely. Experience working around vehicles, machinery, or transport equipment. Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements. Physically fit and able to perform manual duties. Reliable transport to and from work. Available immediately. Willingness to work overtime and shifts when operationally required. Key Responsibilities Assist mechanics and workshop personnel with daily maintenance and repair activities. Conduct basic vehicle checks and inspections. Assist with vehicle preparation and pre-delivery activities. Perform basic mechanical tasks under supervision. Clean, maintain, and organize workshop areas and equipment. Assist with loading, unloading, and movement of vehicles and equipment. Support fleet maintenance and operational requirements. Ensure tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained. Report defects, damages, and safety concerns to supervisors. Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations. Assist with general warehouse and yard duties when required. Complete assigned tasks accurately and within required timeframes. Skills and Competencies Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability. Good communication skills. Advantageous Experience Exposure to vehicle logistics, transport, fleet maintenance, or automotive environments. Experience working with trucks, trailers, commercial vehicles, or automotive workshops. Basic knowledge of diesel engines and vehicle components. Forklift experience (where licensed).
