POSITION INFO

Minimum Requirements: Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Physical Science. National Certificate or Diploma in Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Geology, or a related field will be advantageous. Previous experience in a mining, mineral processing, or analytical laboratory is preferred. Basic knowledge of laboratory information management systems (LIMS). Familiarity with sample preparation techniques and laboratory equipment Key Responsibilities: Receive, log, label, and track geological, metallurgical, environmental, and production samples. Prepare samples for analysis through drying, crushing, splitting, pulverizing, screening, and weighing. Assist laboratory technicians and chemists with routine chemical and physical analyses. Operate and maintain sample preparation equipment, including crushers, mills, pulverizes, and sieves. Conduct routine housekeeping and ensure laboratory work areas are clean and organized. Clean, calibrate, and perform basic maintenance on laboratory equipment according to standard operating procedures (SOPs). Record test results accurately and maintain laboratory records and databases. Monitor stock levels of laboratory consumables and assist with inventory control. Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous waste. Comply with chain-of-custody procedures to maintain sample integrity. Support internal and external quality assurance programmes, including proficiency testing and audits Report equipment failures, sample discrepancies, safety incidents, and non-conformances to the supervisor. Compliance and Safety Responsibilities: Comply with the requirements of the South African Minerals Council South Africa guidelines where applicable. Adhere to the provisions of the Mine Health and Safety Act and all site-specific health and safety procedures. Follow Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), quality management systems, and company SOPs. Wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Participate in safety meetings, risk assessments, and incident investigations. I Identify and report unsafe conditions and behaviors Working Conditions Work is performed in a mining laboratory and sample preparation facility. Exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, and varying temperatures. Requires standing for extended periods and lifting samples within prescribed limits. May require shift work, overtime, weekend work, and travel between mine sites.
