Electrical Designer

The leading Transformer Manufacturing Firm in South Africa is seeking a skilled and detail-driven Electrical Design Engineer to join their team in Wadeville and Heidelberg.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out electrical designs for new and repair transformers up to 50 MVA and 170 kV, preparing relevant documentation, and supporting the implementation of electrical design technology in line with company guidelines and standards.

In order to be considered for this role you must have the following:

• National Higher Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering
• More than 5 years’ experience in distribution, industrial, miniature substation and power transformer design
• Experience with transformer designs up to 50 MVA and 170 kV Class
• Knowledge of electrical calculations, including material characteristics and equipment used in medium and power transformers
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes applied in distribution, industrial, miniature substation and power transformers
• Ability to work with customised engineering design software and advise on improvements
• Profience and AutoCAD
• Literacy on Design and Testing Software: DTDS and Test Bay Software
• Ability to input and read information on MRP systems such as SYSPRO / SAP
• Code 8 driver’s licence

Key Accountabilities But not limited to

• Carry out electrical calculations for new and repair transformers, including distribution, industrial, rectifier, solar, VSD and power transformers
• Conduct Strip & Quote Assessments of transformers and miniature substations, including inspections, equipment condition assessments, test result checks and failure reports
• Optimise designs with cost calculations, taking into account available materials, customer specifications and stock availability
• Analyse, interpret and maintain electrical design databases
• Train and support personnel in power transformer design and system applications
• Identify risks and opportunities within the design process and system applications
• Provide relevant information and technical support to Factory, Purchasing, Sales and Technical Assistance teams
• Apply knowledge of national and international standards relevant to electric transformer design
• Assist with the preparation and review of technical standards used within the design section
