Job Opportunity: Junior Quantity Surveyor (Contracting)
Location: Cape Town, Western Cape
Job Type: 6-Month Contract (with the intention to go Permanent)
Salary: R18,000 - R20,000 per month

About the Role
We are looking for a detailed and proactive Junior Quantity Surveyor to join our contracting team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in the commercial success of our construction projects. This position begins as a 6-month contract, with a strong pathway to a permanent role for the right candidate who demonstrates accuracy, reliability, and a solid work ethic. Your primary focus will be on accurate measurement and Bill of Quantities (BOQ) generation, while also supporting the senior commercial team with day-to-day project tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Core Duties
Accurately measure quantities from construction drawings and models.
Generate, price, and format comprehensive Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
Assist in the preparation of tender documents and project cost estimates.
General QS Tasks
Procurement: Assist with the adjudication of subcontractor and supplier quotes.
Valuations: Conduct site measurements to prepare and submit monthly progress claims.
Subcontractor Management: Reconcile subcontractor accounts and prepare monthly payment certificates.
Variations: Identify, record, and price project variations and site instructions.
Cost Control: Assist the Senior QS in preparing monthly cost reports, tracking budgets, and monitoring project cash flow.
Collaboration: Work closely with Site Managers, foremen, and external consultants to ensure commercial objectives are met.
What We’re Looking For
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within a contracting environment (main contractor experience is highly preferred).
- A relevant Degree or National Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
Skills & Competencies
- Exceptional proficiency in taking off quantities and BOQ generation.
- Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, and standard contracting conditions (e.g., JBCC, GCC, or FIDIC).
- Proficiency in industry-standard QS software (e.g., WinQS, CCS Candy, DimensionX, or Bluebeam).
- Advanced MS Excel skills.
- Strong numerical and analytical problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet strict tender and reporting deadlines.
