PART TIME PAEDIATRICIAN
Paedspal is a registered Not for Profit organisation based in Rondebosch, providing care and support for children living with life-threatening and life limiting illnesses. Paediatric Palliative Care (PPC) is a rapidly developing new approach to care, organised in some places as a specialty, to improve the care and quality of life of children with life limiting conditions. It is the science and art of lessening physical, psychosocial, emotional and existential suffering by multidisciplinary teams that mobilise existing resources.
Paedspal seeks to employ a Part time Paediatrician to service our patients within the private sector.
The ideal candidate should be able to
- Be available in normal working hours when required (according to an agreed schedule).
- See hospitalised patients in private sector hospitals in the Cape Town area, based on the updated Paedspal private practice model.
- Perform a holistic Paediatric Palliative Care assessment of the patient and caregiver and family and liaise with primary hospital teams to come up with a holistic management plan that includes an advance care plan when needed.
- Participate in multidisciplinary discussions with relevant teams in hospitals to make decisions.
- Be involved in discharge planning/ establishing relationships with colleagues and teams outside of the hospital in the Metro, Western Cape and occasionally other Provinces to ensure continuity of Care from hospital to home.
- Participate in Paedspal Multi-disciplinary Out-Patient Clinics as required.
- Participate in a weekly Multi-Disciplinary Meeting with the rest of the Paedspal team (Fridays)
- Maintain good clinical record keeping and assist with data collation especially for donors
Requirements
- FC Paeds and/or MMed (Paeds) depending on time of qualification
- Registration with the HPCSA as a Paediatrician
- Paid up membership of MPS or other relevant Protection Society (that included limited private practice cover).
- Palliative Care qualification (Dip Pal Med or other) is not essential but preferred. Training will be provided to the candidate before commencing the first shift and ongoing mentorship will be provided by the Paedspal team. This is a great opportunity for upskilling.
- Sound interpersonal and good communication skills
- A Valid driver’s license
- Cape Town based
