Project Manager

MotseniHiTechSpace is a company in the Space & Maritime Communications Design & Development industry situated in Stellenbosch, Technopark. We’re looking for a 1 Year Contract/To permanent Technical Project Manager for our next-generation maritime communications system. The incumbent will be required to turn high-level product strategy into actionable project plans, and resource planning, and budget & timelines. We’ll consider South African Citizens candidates from Graduate to Mid (2+ years) level, with a background in electronic engineering (N.Dip, BTech, BEng or MSc level) and project management.

Role Overview

We are seeking an entry level Technical Project Manager to lead a focused small engineering team in the development of our next-generation VDES. You will act as the engineering anchor and execution lead—turning high-level product strategy into actionable project plans, performing continuous resource planning, and ensuring the delivery of mission-critical space-to-sea communication systems.

Responsibilities

Project Planning & Documentation

• Project Planning: Develop and maintain comprehensive project roadmaps, setting clear milestones, deliverables, and timelines.
• Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) & Work Packages (WP): Author and maintain clear WBS and detailed WP documentation to define scopes, dependencies, and acceptance criteria for all engineering tasks.
• Documentation: Ensure project documentation—covering risk registers, resource logs, and technical specs—is continually updated and accessible.

Resource & Team Management

• Resource Filling: Actively oversee resource allocation in collaboration with HR & CTO. Forecast future bandwidth and skill requirements for the engineer team, identifying and bridging talent gaps when necessary.
• Agile Execution: Facilitate daily stand-ups, sprint planning, weekly team meetings and routine technical reviews to unblock engineers and track progress against defined WPs.

Technical & Cross-Functional Delivery

• Engineering Oversight: Ensure the development of VDES components ( transceivers, and baseband processing) aligns with strict space-qualification and maritime regulatory standards (e.g., IMO, IALA, ITU).
• Quality Assurance: Work alongside systems engineers to implement testing, verification, and validation frameworks.
• Stakeholder Reporting: Report on project health (schedule, WBS compliance, budget) to senior management and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Education: National Diploma, B.Sc., BTech, or M.Sc. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, or a closely related STEM discipline.
• Experience: 1+ years of technical project management experience within the Engineering sectors ( Space, Aerospace, or Maritime communications sectors will be an advantage but not a requirement)
• Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with RF systems, satellite communications, AIS, or VDES ) technologies is not mandatory, but will be an advantage.
• Project Methodologies: Knowledge of writing granular WBS, defining WPs, Project plan and utilizing PM tools (e.g., Jira, MS Project, Confluence).
• Soft Skills: Conflict resolution, resource management, and communication skills suitable for managing high-performing engineering teams.

Package & Remuneration

Negotiable from R22 000.00 pm depending on the work experience.
