Garment Technologist

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Garment Technologist to join our product team. This role is responsible for ensuring product quality, fit, construction, and performance across apparel, while also supporting footwear and accessories where applicable.

A key component of this role is translating technical product knowledge into practical, easy-to-understand training and educational content for retail teams, ensuring staff are equipped to confidently sell and explain product features and benefits.

Product Development & Quality Assurance

Manage garment technology processes from development through to bulk production

Evaluate fit, grading, construction, and overall garment performance

Conduct fit sessions and provide technical feedback to design and suppliers

Ensure all products meet brand standards, specifications, and quality benchmarks

Review and approve samples (proto, fit, PPS, and production samples)

Identify and resolve technical and production issues

Technical Documentation

Create and maintain detailed, measurement specs, and grading rules

Ensure consistency across product categories and suppliers

Work closely with design and sourcing teams to align on product intent and execution

Supplier & Production Liaison

Communicate with manufacturers regarding construction, fit corrections, and quality improvements

Support production teams to ensure timelines and standards are met

Conduct or support factory and product audits where required

Retail Training & Product Education (Key Focus Area)

Develop educational materials for retail teams (fit guides, product features, care instructions)

Train internal teams and retail staff on product fit, function, and technical benefits

Translate technical specifications into clear selling points for in-store use

Support sales teams with product knowledge to enhance customer experience

Cross-Category Support

Provide technical input across apparel, and accessories where required

Ensure consistency and quality and performance standards across all product categories

Diploma or Degree in Clothing Technology, Fashion Design, or related field

Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a Garment Technologist or similar role

Strong understanding of garment construction, fabrics, and fit

Experience working with international suppliers and production processes

Advantageous Experience

Experience across apparel, footwear, and accessories

Background in outdoor, performance, or technical product categories

Experience in retail-facing product training or product education

Understanding of sustainable materials and manufacturing processes

R35-R40 000pm CTC depending on experience
