SUMMARY

Our client in the Northam area, requires the services of a Fleet / Diesel Mechanic with at least 2 years' experience on Scania servicing.

POSITION INFO

Requirements Qualified diesel mechanic or equivalent trade certification. Experience working on heavy-duty trucks and trailers. Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and fleet management. Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults. Experience with mining, bulk haulage, or long-distance transport fleets is advantageous. Valid driver's license (heavy vehicle license advantageous). Ability to work independently and respond to breakdowns when required Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Fleet availability and uptime. Reduction in roadside breakdowns. Compliance with maintenance schedules. Repair turnaround times. Maintenance cost control. Vehicle safety and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on trucks and trailers. Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and braking system faults. Perform repairs on engines, transmissions, suspensions, axles, and trailer components. Respond to breakdowns and unplanned maintenance requirements. Monitor wear-and-tear items such as tyres, brakes, suspension components, wheel bearings, and trailer running gear. Maintain service records and maintenance schedules. Coordinate with drivers regarding reported defects and repair requirements. Ensure all vehicles comply with safety and roadworthiness regulations. Manage spare parts inventory and maintenance consumables. Liaise with external service providers when specialized repairs are required.
