Proposals Engineer

Our client, a leading manufacturer of industrial and utility boilers within the engineering and energy sector, is seeking an experienced Proposals Engineer to join their Utilities Business Unit based in Isando, Gauteng.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive technical and commercial proposals for boiler and environmental solutions, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and company objectives. This role plays a critical part in driving sales performance, profitability, and successful project execution within a highly technical engineering environment.

Preference will be given to EE candidates in line with employment equity requirements.

• Review and analyse customer enquiry documents and technical specifications
• Conduct site visits to determine and confirm customer requirements
• Liaise with applications engineering and design teams on scope and technical solutions
• Prepare, issue, and adjudicate enquiries to subcontractors and suppliers
• Work closely with estimating and finance teams to ensure accurate costing and commercial alignment
• Develop pricing proposals and participate in pricing and adjudication meetings
• Compile and submit tenders within strict deadlines
• Maintain ongoing communication with customers via meetings, site visits, and correspondence
• Confirm delivery programmes with planning and project teams
• Standardise estimating and proposal processes and documentation
• Support marketing and proposal system improvements
• Provide general system and proposal administration support
• Perform site visits and customer engagement activities as required
• Ensure all proposals align with technical, commercial, and contractual requirements
• Perform any additional duties required to achieve business objectives

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSc, BEng or BTech)
• 5–10 years’ experience in an engineering or utility boiler environment
• Strong experience in proposals, estimating, or project engineering roles
• Exposure to large-scale industrial or utility clients (Eskom exposure advantageous)
• Knowledge of NEC and FIDIC contract frameworks
• Strong proficiency in MS Office
• Sales or proposals certification advantageous
• Strong technical understanding of engineering systems and project costing
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
• Strong planning, organisational, and analytical abilities
• Customer-focused with strong commercial acumen
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines

• Total Cost to Company: R1,300,000 per annum
• Includes provident fund, medical aid, and car allowance (fuel card & vehicle insurance)
• Permanent position based in Isando, Gauteng
