Position Overview

Purpose of the Position

The Tier 3 Microsoft Cloud & Data Platform Engineer is responsible for the architecture, deployment, advanced support, optimization, and governance of Microsoft cloud, automation, data, AI, and collaboration environments.

Operating within a fast-paced Managed Services framework, the successful candidate will handle high-level technical escalations, provide solution architecture guidance, and drive modern data and AI transformation strategies across enterprise client environments. This role requires a heavy blend of architectural depth, automation proficiency, root-cause troubleshooting, and a stringent governance mindset.

Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities

• Cloud Infrastructure & Engineering: Design, deploy, manage, and optimize enterprise Microsoft Azure environments, covering core compute, high-performance storage, virtual networking, identity, and security architectures. Maintain business continuity via Azure backup and disaster recovery frameworks.
• Data Engineering & Visualization: Design and manage Microsoft Data Lake environments and Microsoft Fabric implementations. Implement structured data ingestion, lifecycle retention, and governance policies while driving enterprise data visualization through Power BI.
• Intelligent Automation: Build and support complex Power Automate workflows, Power Apps integrations, and AI Builder models to optimize client operational workflows.
• Tier 3 Escalation Support: Serve as the definitive escalation point for the Service Desk and Network Operations Centre (NOC) to resolve highly complex cloud, database, and automation incidents. Conduct detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and problem management.
• Governance & Security: Enforce strict alignment across customer environments with Microsoft Best Practices, ITIL frameworks, ISO 27001, and POPIA compliance mandates. Manage cost-optimization strategies, RBAC, and subscription policies.
• Collaboration & Mentorship: Administer enterprise Microsoft 365 environments (Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, Intune, and Entra ID). Provide active mentorship and knowledge transfer to upskill Tier 1 and Tier 2 engineering tiers.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

Education & Experience (Mandatory)

• Matric / Grade 12.
• Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cloud Computing, or a related field.
• Minimum 5–10 years of progressive experience operating explicitly within Microsoft cloud and enterprise technical environments.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on engineering experience supporting Azure and Microsoft 365 enterprise ecosystems.
• Proven operational experience within a Managed Services Provider (MSP) or complex enterprise support environment.

Technical & Licensing Acumen

• Extensive execution history across Microsoft Azure, Power Automate, AI Builder, and SharePoint Online.
• Direct competency with data engineering tools, specifically Microsoft Data Lake and Microsoft Fabric.
• Fluent understanding of Entra ID (Azure AD), advanced security/compliance logging, automation scripting (PowerShell), and ITSM frameworks.
• Proven capability integrating Microsoft Cloud and Power Platform architectures with Dynamics 365, Teams, and third-party environments.

Certifications (Highly Advantageous)

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate / Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
• Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Functional Consultant / Solution Architect.
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate / Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate.
• ITIL Foundation Certification.

• Weekly Performance: Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on recurring partner challenges, manage escalations, and provide hands-on upskilling to junior engineers.
• Monthly Performance: Compile operational and platform reports, evaluate tenant infrastructure cost optimization, and confirm SLA delivery tracking metrics.
