SUMMARY

A leading paper merchant based in Elsies River Industrial, Cape Town is currently seeking a Despatch Supervisor with extensive experience in Warehouse Management.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Under the general supervision of the Site Manager, the Despatch Supervisor provides general supervision and oversight of work performed by employees within the classifications of co-ordinator, scheduler and despatcher. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with county and transit policies and applicable department of transportation laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, training, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and discipline, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Provides technical assistance to staff and Warehouse Manager.

POSITION INFO

SCOPE: Maintain a department organizational structure sufficient to meet all goals and objectives. MAIN TASKS: Directs and supervises staff; Assigning and delegating projects; Ensure that proper staff levels are maintained; Coaches and mentors and/or implements corrective action for performance; Conduct employee evaluations, reviews and approves employee timesheets; Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates; Ensures assignments are completed on schedule and in a timely manner; Ensure training and supervision is provided at all times; Ensure that all despatch equipment is maintained and in operational condition; Perform any/all duties and responsibilities as a Supervisor, oversees route-scheduling systems and despatch appropriate employees and vehicles. Performs other clerical duties as assigned to maintain operations of the warehouse. Reports directly to Warehouse Manage KNOWLEDGE, SKILL and ABILITIES: The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:- Transit system operations, rules and regulations; Read and interpret business routes and schedules; Knowledge of local traffic regulations; Knowledge of safe driving techniques; Principles and practice of supervision and training; Exercise tact and sound judgment when resolving operational problems Skills: Time Management Proficient Accurate Complex problem solving Judgment and decision making Active listening Critical thinking Monitoring individuals Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to think independently and handle multiple projects through to completion Maintain basic records and complete reports; Supervise, train and evaluate staf Personal Attributes: Efficient Confident Demonstrate ability to lead and manage staff Good organisation Team building Leadership Deal with changes Domain knowledge Fluency of new idea Education: Matric; Minimum 5 year's experience as a supervisor; Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with having a similar position for 4 - 5 years Computer Literacy: MS Word MS Excel, (pivots essential) Internet Ms Outlook
