We are looking for a Business Development and Stakeholder Management Lead to drive and accelerate our growth across Southern Africa. Based in Johannesburg, you will lead project origination, business development and capital raising, identify new opportunities, and expand our presence and client base across the region. You will work closely with our global team and engage stakeholders across multiple African jurisdictions, with frequent travel to countries including Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique and Angola. As our corporate headquarters are in Australia, you must be able to work remotely, flexibly and independently.
- Leadership and strategy: Support Maki's commercial vision and contribute to strategic plans and budgets for the Southern African market, ensuring alignment with Maki's global goals and values.
- Business development: Identify and develop new business opportunities, conduct commercial negotiations, and oversee all business development activity in the region. Build and promote Maki's value proposition to potential clients and partners, implement tailored sales plans, and lead sales calls and meetings.
- Stakeholder engagement: Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including clients, partners, local governments, NGOs and community groups. Act as the first point of contact for Southern African stakeholders.
- Market intelligence and innovation: Stay across regulatory and technological developments affecting Maki's business, and propose innovative solutions to meet market needs.
- Operational excellence: Identify and manage regional corporate risks, support the development of processes, systems and tools, and provide accurate, timely reporting on business development and sales activity.
- Ad hoc business support: Undertake additional tasks as required to support the successful growth of Maki's business in Southern Africa.
- Tertiary qualification in business, management, ecology or an equivalent discipline
- At least 5 years' experience in business development or corporate finance
- At least 5 years' experience within the ecology, land management, agriculture and/or fire management industries
- At least 3 years' experience in a leadership role
- Strong strategic, financial and commercial acumen
- Proven track record managing international stakeholder and partner relationships
- Experience introducing a new technology or product to market, or experience in a start-up
- Relevant working and travel rights for the target jurisdictions, and willingness to travel frequently across Africa
Total package in the range of approximately R1,150,000 to R1,500,000 per annum, plus performance-based incentives.
