Job Summary:
A Hospital Cleaner ensures that wards, offices, waiting areas, bathrooms, and other hospital spaces are cleaned and disinfected according to health and safety standards. The role is essential in infection control and maintaining a hygienic healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and disinfect hospital rooms, wards, and common areas
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors
  • Clean toilets, bathrooms, and wash areas
  • Empty waste bins and dispose of medical and general waste correctly
  • Sanitize high-touch surfaces such as door handles, beds, and counters
  • Refill cleaning supplies such as soap, sanitizer, and paper towels
  • Follow infection-control and hygiene procedures
  • Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely
  • Report maintenance or hygiene issues to supervisors
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when required

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Grade 10 / Grade 12 (often preferred)
  • Previous cleaning experience is an advantage
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment
  • Understanding of hygiene and infection control
  • Attention to detail and cleanliness
  • Good communication and teamwork
  • Ability to work under pressure and follow instructions
  • Physical fitness for standing and moving for long periods

Working Conditions

  • Hospital or clinic environment
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and medical waste
  • May require shifts, weekends, public holidays, or night duty
