Purpose of Job

Sasol Secunda is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented QA/QC Specialist to oversee Quality Assurance and Quality Control for all Access (Scaffolding), Insulation (Hot & Cold), and Protective Coatings activities. In this critical role, you will serve as the gatekeeper of technical excellence, ensuring that all AIP work is executed in full compliance with Sasol’s stringent safety, operational, and technical standards. You will work collaboratively with service providers and maintenance teams to drive reliability, cost-effectiveness, and a zero-defect culture.

To develop, implement, and manage robust QA/QC systems for AIP scopes, ensuring full compliance with Sasol’s Work Management Process, safety protocols, and technical specifications. This is achieved through proactive planning, rigorous inspections, systematic audits, and the enforcement of preventative quality measures.

Key Accountabilities

Quality Planning & Execution

  • Develop, review, and implement Quality Control Plans (QCPs) and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) for all AIP work packages.
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive "Item Lists" for inspection and testing activities.

Inspection & Compliance

  • Conduct hands-on quality inspections and surveillance audits for scaffold erection, insulation application (hot/cold), and protective coating systems.
  • Verify that all materials, workmanship, and final installations conform to approved drawings, safety standards, and technical specifications (e.g., NACE, ISO, SANS).

Non-Conformance & Corrective Action

  • Lead the identification, documentation, and resolution of non-conformances (NCRs) using structured root cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams and contractors to implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate, auditable QA/QC records, including inspection reports, material certifications, and logbooks.
  • Prepare and present quality performance dashboards and trend reports for management reviews.

Safety Integration

  • Support safety management by ensuring that quality processes directly reinforce HSI standards (e.g., scaffold tagging, coating safety data sheets, insulation fire hazards).
  • Participate actively in pre-job planning, risk assessments, and hazard identification (HAZID) from a quality perspective.

Stakeholder & Customer Relations

  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal maintenance teams, external service providers, and Sasol project stakeholders.
  • Clearly communicate QA/QC expectations, inspection findings, and quality requirements across all levels—from technicians to management.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives, driving lessons learned into updated procedures and best practices.
  • Implement preventative quality strategies to reduce rework, delays, and lifecycle costs.
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions and contribute to Sasol’s internal learning platforms.

Formal Education

Essential (Mandatory):

  • Grade 12 / Matric with passes in English, Mathematics, and Physical Science.
  • NQF Level 4 Trade Certificate or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g., Scaffolding, Insulation, Coatings, or general Mechanical/Civil trade).
  • NACE Coating Inspector Certification (Level 1 or higher – mandatory).

Preferred (Advantageous):

  • Additional certifications: API, CSWIP, or ICorr Insulation Inspector.
  • Formal safety management training (e.g., SAMTRAC, NEBOSH) and experience conducting site safety/quality audits.

Working Experience

Essential (Mandatory):

  • Six (6) years of proven experience in a QA/QC role within at least two of the three AIP disciplines (Scaffolding, Insulation, Protective Coatings).
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing QA/QC documentation, ITPs, and reporting systems.

Preferred (Advantageous):

  • Strong working knowledge of Sasol’s Work Management Process or similar petrochemical maintenance systems.
  • Proven ability to facilitate root cause analysis (RCA) and CAPA processes.
