Mechanical Engineer - Durbanville, Cape Town Opportunity for a mid-level mechanical engineer to design, manage projects, and provide technical guidance on Capital Drilling Equipment. About Our Client The company deals with Capital Drilling Equipment, involving processes and procedures related to its design, operation, inspection, and repair. The Role: Mechanical Engineer The Mechanical Engineer is a mid-level role focused on in-house mechanical design, engineering theory, project management, manufacturing, and practical work. The position requires interacting with customers, suppliers, field service engineers, technicians, management, and consultants, while supervising personnel and providing expert technical advice within the department. Key Responsibilities Bring three to six years of experience in a relatable engineering environment to oversee multiple projects and mentor junior mechanical engineers and technicians. Conduct in-house design and development, including strength calculations from first principles, FEA/Simulation, 3D CAD modelling, and drawing using SolidWorks. Manage design and development projects from inception through to delivery while ensuring adherence to company policies, procedures, and safety practices. Generate manufacturing data packs including BOMs, QCPs, Work Instructions, and Manuals. Monitor compliance with applicable codes, practices, QC policies, procedures, specifications, and review engineering deliverables to initiate corrective actions. Conduct detailed reporting and inspection report reviews to provide regular progress feedback to management and customers. About You Three to six years of experience in a relatable engineering environment. Bachelor of Science (BSc Eng) or Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Mechanical Engineering. Advanced knowledge of the MS Office suite, especially Word, Excel, and Teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English across email, technical report writing, and WhatsApp. Excellent organisational, planning, and time management skills. Sound understanding of fabrication, boiler making/welding, and precision machining. Sound understanding of 3D CAD packages, in particular SolidWorks, is advantageous. Sound understanding of FEA Software, in particular SolidWorks Simulation and/or Abaqus, is advantageous. Sound understanding of Engineering Calculations Software, in particular Mathcad, MATLAB, or similar, is advantageous. Exposure to ASME VIII, API, and Class Rules (ABS & DNV) in respect of design and manufacture is advantageous.
