SAFETY OFFICER

We are looking to employ the services of a SAFETY OFFICER
- Inspects the site to ensure it is a hazard-free environment.
- The safety officer reviews and approves all sub-contractors’ safety plans.
- Verifies that injury logs and reports are completed and submitted to related government agencies.
- Verifies that all tools and equipment are adequate and safe for use.
- Promotes safe practices at the job site.
- Enforces safety guidelines.
- Trains and carries out drills and exercises on how to manage emergency situations.
- Conducts investigations of all accidents and near-misses.
- Reports to concerned authorities as requested or mandated by regulations.
- Conducts job hazard analyses.
- Establishes safety standards and policies as needed.
- Performs emergency response drills.
- Watches out for the safety of all workers and works to protect them from entering hazardous situations.
- Responds to employees’ safety concerns.
- Coordinates registration and removal of hazardous waste.
- Serves as the link between mine and contractors.
- Arranges for OSHA mandated testing and/or evaluations of the workplace by external agencies/consultants.
- Carrying our risk assessments and considering how risks could be reduced.
- Outlining safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards.
- Carrying out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented.
- Making changes to working practices that are safe and comply with legislation.
- Preparing health and safety strategies and developing internal policy.
- Leading in-house training with managers and employees about health and safety issues and risks.
- Keeping records of inspection findings and producing reports that suggest improvements.
- Recording of incidents and accidents and producing statistics for managers.
- Ensuring safe work on site.
- Advising on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases.
- Compiling, Client approval and maintaining safety files.
- Booking and maintaining medicals and inductions.
- Compile, executing and filing of day to day site documents;

- Mini HIRA
- Tool checklist and inspections (monthly)
- Store control (Book in/out)
- Client communications to employees
- Arrange and maintain 3rd party training.
- Drafting of Legal Appointments
- Oversee Workshop safety file.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.
- Compiling and submitted the Annual Workplace skills plan and Training Report.
- Previous experience in a structural steel fabrication environment, in a similar position, is essential.
- Computer Literate, MS Word & Excel
- Good understanding of ISO 9001:2015
- Multitask and ability to work under pressure
- Good Communication skill & bilingual (English and Afrikaans)
- Good customer relations
- Code 8, Drivers licence
- Grade 12 or equivalent. Samtrac or equivalent essential.
