Senior Catchment Management and Water Resources Specialist

WSP

Join our Water Management team as a Mid-Level to Senior Catchment Management and Water Resources Specialist, supporting integrated water resource and catchment-scale modelling across mining, industrial, and water resource projects. This role combines dynamic water balance modelling, hydrological analysis, catchment modelling, water resource planning and management and water quality (including salinity) assessments to provide holistic system understanding and decision support. The specialist will contribute to water resource planning, stormwater management, regulatory compliance (WULA/IWWMP), and operational optimisation, working within multidisciplinary teams across hydrology, geochemistry, engineering, water resource management and environmental disciplines.

  • Develop and update integrated water balance and water resource models, including GoldSim simulations.

  • Develop and maintain integrated simulation models incorporating hydrology, catchment processes, infrastructure, and operational systems. Represent rainfall-runoff processes, groundwater recharge, surface water routing, and operational water systems within modelling frameworks. Extend models to incorporate water quality and salinity dynamics, supporting environmental compliance and impact assessment.

  • Apply catchment hydrology principles, including rainfall–runoff modelling and catchment yield estimation. analysis (e.g., dam yield, operating rules).

  • Integrate water quality and salt balance modelling into water management systems.

  • Conduct dam yield analysis and catchment water balances in support of water resources planning.

  • Develop and support stormwater management plans and catchment-based assessments.

  • Contribute to catchment reconciliation studies, water resource planning studies, water resource systems assessments and infrastructure planning.

  • Contribute to WULA, IWWMP, WC/WDM strategies, and regulatory submissions.

  • Conduct scenario analysis, forecasting, and risk assessments.

  • Prepare technical reports, WAF outputs, and client deliverables.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

  • Work as part of multidisciplinary project teams, collaborating closely with hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, mine design, and permitting specialists.
  • Communicate model findings and implications to senior team members and clients in a clear and structured manner.
  • Support user training, model walkthroughs, or client demonstrations where needed.

Health and Safety

  • Role model standards for SHEQ performance and behaviour consistent with the company’s health, safety, environmental and quality vision and policies by influencing those around you

  • Contributing to the identification of SHEQ risks and driving processes to achieve Zero Harm

  • Embracing, displaying and promoting the company values and ensuring a safe working environment is maintained at all times.
  • B achelor’s or Master’s degree in Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering, Hydrology, Environmental Science, or related field

  • 5–10 years’ experience in water resources, hydrology, system scale water resource modelling, or integrated water management. Experience in catchment hydrology and hydrological modelling

  • Exposure to water quality and salt balance modelling

  • Experience with water resource planning tools (WRYM, WRPM, Pitman/WRSM or similar)

  • Experience in stormwater management and regulatory studies (WULA/IWWMP)
