Finance & Operations Assistant - Johannesburg

We are looking for a highly organised and detail-focused Finance & Operations Assistant to join our client’s investment team. This role will support the day-to-day finance, accounting, investment administration, and operational activities of the business.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to gain hands-on exposure within an investment environment, working closely with senior leadership and supporting the administration of investor relationships, portfolio activities, and business operations.

The successful candidate will be proactive, analytical, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where accuracy, ownership, and attention to detail are essential.

Finance & Accounting

  • Manage day-to-day finance activities, including bookkeeping, processing transactions, and maintaining accurate financial records
  • Perform reconciliations, including bank, creditor, debtor, and investment-related reconciliations
  • Assist with monthly management accounts and financial reporting
  • Support the preparation of annual financial statements and external audit processes
  • Assist with cash flow forecasting, payment processing, and expense management
  • Support payroll administration and statutory compliance requirements (PAYE, UIF, SDL, VAT, and tax)

Investment & Fund Administration

  • Assist with the administration of investor mandates and investment structures
  • Maintain accurate investor records, documentation, and reporting information
  • Support capital call and distribution processes
  • Assist with portfolio monitoring and preparation of investor reporting packs
  • Coordinate with fund administrators, custodians, auditors, and other external service providers
  • Assist with maintaining compliance and operational documentation

Business Operations Support

  • Provide operational and administrative support across the investment business
  • Assist the CEO, CIO, and investment team with reporting, research, and ad-hoc projects
  • Support internal processes and contribute to improving operational efficiency
  • Relevant qualification in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (BCom, BAcc, or equivalent)
  • 2–4 years’ experience in finance, accounting, investment administration, or a related environment
  • Experience within an investment firm, asset manager, fund administrator, or financial services environment will be advantageous
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial processes
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Xero, Pastel, or similar) and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational and administrative skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and take ownership of responsibilities
  • A proactive, commercially minded approach with a willingness to learn
