The initiative was launched by the President in 2018 and is a partnership with the government and labour department to collectively devise a national plan to build economic pathways for South Africa’s youth by creating workplace opportunities for South African youth over a period of 12 months.

About the role: Hands-on laboratory support role assisting with the calibration, configuration, and preparation of temperature monitoring sensors for client deployment in a metrology and instrumentation environment. Responsibilities: Receive, log, and process sensors and devices submitted for calibration in accordance with laboratory procedures. Prepare sensors and associated equipment for calibration using approved laboratory methods and instrumentation. Perform calibration and laboratory testing activities under supervision, ensuring accuracy, repeatability, and traceability of results. Maintain complete, accurate, and timely laboratory records, including calibration data and test documentation. Label, package, and prepare sensor kits for dispatch, ensuring correct identification and correct client allocation. Support and execute quality control activities as directed by the Laboratory Manager. Maintain cleanliness, order, and organization of the laboratory workspace, including proper handling and upkeep of equipment and consumables. Assist in general maintenance of laboratory equipment and consumables. Provide general administrative and operational support to laboratory staff as required. Minimum Requirements South African Unemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 34. Must not have participated on the YES Programme before. Matric. Recently completed a qualification in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, Physics, or a related technical field Must be tech-savvy with strong digital literacy and comfortable using laboratory software, data logging systems, and basic IT troubleshooting to support calibration workflows and recordkeeping. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in technical and data-driven environments. Ability to follow structured procedures and instructions consistently. Good organizational and time-management skills. Willingness to learn laboratory processes, calibration techniques, and technical workflows. Ability to work both independently under supervision and as part of a technical team. Basic understanding of measurement principles, instrumentation, or laboratory environments (advantageous but not required).
