The Lead Data Engineer will play a leadership role in designing and delivering modern data platforms, including data warehouses, lakehouses, and enterprise analytics solutions. This role combines hands-on engineering, team leadership, and strategic delivery, offering an opportunity to work on large-scale digital transformation initiatives.
- Design, develop, and optimise scalable data pipelines and ingestion frameworks
- Build and manage ETL/ELT processes and automated data workflows
- Develop enterprise data warehouses, data lakes, and lakehouse architectures
- Implement data modelling techniques (star schema, snowflake, data vault)
- Ensure data quality, governance, and compliance standards
- Lead and mentor data engineering teams and enforce best practices
- Manage project delivery, timelines, and technical roadmaps
- Engage stakeholders and translate business needs into technical solutions
Job Experience & Skills Required / Ideal Candidate Profile:
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related field
- Postgraduate qualification or certifications advantageous
Experience
- Minimum 8+ years in Data Engineering / Data Platforms
- Minimum 3+ years in technical leadership or team management
- Experience in cloud data platforms and enterprise data solutions
- Proven delivery in data warehouse, lakehouse, and analytics projects
Skills
- Strong experience with SQL, Python, PySpark
- Cloud platforms (Azure, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric)
- Data integration tools (ADF, Airflow, orchestration tools)
- Data modelling and architecture expertise
- DevOps, CI/CD, and version control tools
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management capability
- Proven experience delivering enterprise-grade data solutions
- Ability to operate in Agile delivery environments
Location: Centurion, Hybrid
Contract Duration: 12 Months
