SUMMARY

An established international chemical distributor is seeking an experienced HSQ Manager to lead and manage the company’s Health, Safety, and Quality (HSQ) functions, ensuring compliance with all local and international regulatory requirements, industry standards, and corporate policies. This role plays a critical part in protecting employees, customers, the environment, and the business by promoting a safe, compliant, and quality-focused operating environment. The successful candidate will drive the implementation and continuous improvement of HSQ systems, maintain ISO certification standards, manage risk, oversee audits, and foster a culture of safety, quality, and compliance throughout the organisation.

Minimum requirements for the role: Must have a relevant tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Quality Management, Environmental Management, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field Must have ISO 9001 Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor Certification Minimum 5 years' experience in a Health, Safety, Quality, Compliance, or Risk Management role Experience within chemical distribution, manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, or related regulated industries would be highly advantageous Strong understanding of South African HSQ legislation and international quality standards Experience in implementing and maintaining ISO Management Systems Proven experience conducting audits, risk assessments, investigations, and compliance reviews Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong administrative and documentation management skills High attention to detail and commitment to quality Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic management systems Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multiple stakeholders Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines The successful candidate will be responsible for: Developing, implementing, and maintaining Health, Safety, and Quality policies, procedures, and management systems. Ensuring alignment of HSQ practices with local legislation, international standards, and group requirements. Driving a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement throughout the organisation. Developing and executing annual HSQ plans and strategic initiatives. Identifying, assessing, and mitigating workplace health and safety risks across all business operations. Implementing and maintaining emergency preparedness and response plans. Coordinating monthly Health and Safety inspections and compliance checklists. Managing annual Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, procurement, and distribution. Overseeing contractor compliance and safety management processes. Ensuring all safety equipment across facilities is maintained, inspected, and compliant. Planning and coordinating annual fire drills and emergency response exercises. Conducting annual HSQ risk assessments and implementing corrective actions where required. Maintaining and continuously improving the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS). Developing and implementing annual internal audit plans. Leading and managing the internal audit programme, ensuring sufficient auditor resources and capability. Overseeing Non-Conformance Report (NCR) processes, investigations, and corrective actions. Reviewing and monitoring monthly quality-related credit notes and identifying trends for improvement. Collaborating with internal departments, suppliers, and customers on quality-related matters. Conducting annual mock product recalls and evaluating organisational readiness. Facilitating customer, supplier, and third-party quality audits. Ensuring compliance with all applicable HSQ legislation, regulations, standards, and corporate requirements. Monitoring changes in legislative and regulatory requirements and updating systems accordingly. Conducting HSQ audits of third-party service providers and ensuring compliance with company standards. Maintaining all HSQ registers, legal appointments, permits, and compliance documentation. Managing customer and supplier quality questionnaires and compliance requests. Ensuring third-party service providers are adhering to all relevant HSQ requirements. Developing and delivering HSQ training programmes across the business. Conducting HSQ induction training for new employees and contractors. Promoting awareness of safety, quality, environmental, and compliance requirements. Preparing and distributing monthly HSEQ communications and newsletters. Supporting managers and employees in understanding and applying HSQ policies and procedures. Investigating workplace incidents, accidents, near misses, and quality-related events. Conducting root cause analyses and implementing corrective and preventative actions. Managing reporting requirements relating to workplace incidents and Compensation Fund claims where applicable. Analysing HSQ performance metrics and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. Leading initiatives that improve operational safety, quality performance, and compliance effectiveness. Maintaining accurate HSQ records, reports, and documentation. Preparing management reports, audit findings, compliance reports, and performance dashboards. Serving as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities, external auditors, certification bodies, customers, and suppliers on HSQ matters. Providing professional guidance and support to management regarding HSQ risks and compliance obligations. Supporting broader operational and business improvement projects as required. Providing HSQ guidance and support across all business functions. Ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with company policies, procedures, and ISO requirements.
