DEPUTY DIRECTOR: EDITING

An opportunity exists for a highly skilled and experienced editing professional to provide editorial support across a broad range of strategic, corporate, and stakeholder communications. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all official documents meet the highest standards of language, accuracy, consistency, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit and proofread media releases, media invitations, articles, speeches, and other communication material.
- Edit correspondence and communication directed to external stakeholders, including Cabinet Memoranda, Parliamentary Questions, invitations, and official letters.
- Review and edit internal documents, including executive submissions, committee minutes, and corporate documentation.
- Edit strategic publications such as Annual Reports, Annual Performance Plans (APPs), strategies, policy documents, reports, conference booklets, and research-related publications.
- Ensure consistency, logical flow, style, grammar, spelling, and presentation of documents in line with organisational standards and style guides.
- Verify references to legislation, organisations, individuals, and official documents.
- Liaise with document authors to clarify content and improve readability and accuracy.
- Maintain a professional editorial standard across all published and internal documentation.
Minimum Requirements
- A tertiary qualification (NQF Level 6) preferably in Languages, English, Journalism, Communication, Linguistics, or a related field, with English as a major subject.
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience in editing, proofreading, or a related editorial role.
- Excellent command of the English language and exceptional written communication skills.
- Strong editing, proofreading, research, and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of government communication processes and the Public Service environment will be advantageous.
- Advanced computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
