Our client is a well-established IT services provider based in Cape Town with more than 20 years of experience supporting businesses across various industries. They specialize in managed IT services, connectivity solutions, network management, desktop support, and infrastructure maintenance.
They are seeking a motivated and technically capable Desktop Support Technician to join their growing support team.
Position Overview
The Desktop Support Technician will be responsible for providing technical support to end users, troubleshooting desktop and hardware issues, maintaining computer systems, supporting printers and peripherals, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of client IT environments.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, interacting with users, and resolving IT issues efficiently while delivering excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Desktop & End-User Support
- Install, configure, and maintain desktop computers and laptops.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues.
- Support Microsoft Windows operating systems and business applications.
- Configure user accounts and workstations.
- Assist users with day-to-day IT-related queries.
Technical Troubleshooting
- Provide remote and on-site technical support.
- Troubleshoot and resolve desktop, software, and connectivity issues.
- Escalate complex issues where necessary.
- Ensure incidents are resolved within agreed service levels.
Hardware Maintenance & Repairs
- Diagnose faulty computer equipment.
- Replace hardware components where required.
- Perform preventative maintenance.
- Assist with hardware upgrades and deployments.
Printer & Peripheral Support
- Install and configure printers and multifunction devices.
- Troubleshoot printing issues.
- Maintain printer connectivity and driver configurations.
- Support scanners and other office peripherals.
Network & Connectivity Support
- Assist with basic networking support.
- Troubleshoot LAN, Wi-Fi, and internet connectivity issues.
- Support user access and permissions.
- Assist with maintaining IT infrastructure.
Customer Service
- Deliver professional and courteous support to clients and colleagues.
- Communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users.
- Build positive working relationships with users and stakeholders.
- Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.
Minimum Requirements
Technical Experience
- Minimum 2–3 years' experience in a Desktop Support, IT Support, or Helpdesk role.
- Experience supporting desktop computers and laptops.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience supporting printers and office peripherals.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems.
- Basic networking knowledge and troubleshooting ability.
- Experience with hardware repairs and upgrades.
Qualifications
- IT Diploma, Certificate, or relevant qualification.
- A+, N+, or equivalent certifications advantageous.
- Microsoft certifications beneficial.
