Senior Microsoft Purview SME (Data Security & DLP Lead)

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Microsoft Purview Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead the implementation, optimisation, and management of Microsoft Purview across a large enterprise environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving data security, data governance, information protection, and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) initiatives.

This position requires a hands-on specialist with a proven track record of delivering enterprise-scale Microsoft Purview deployments and implementing effective data protection strategies across complex environments.

• Lead the end-to-end implementation and deployment of Microsoft Purview solutions.
• Design and execute enterprise-wide data security and information protection strategies.
• Develop and implement Data Loss Prevention (DLP) controls across Microsoft 365, endpoints, cloud applications, and collaboration platforms.
• Configure and optimise Information Protection and Sensitivity Labelling solutions, including automated classification capabilities.
• Implement and manage Data Lifecycle Management and Retention Policies.
• Configure Insider Risk Management and Compliance solutions.
• Drive data discovery, classification, and governance initiatives.
• Implement eDiscovery and compliance management capabilities.
• Support Communication Compliance and Mobile Application Control requirements.
• Integrate Microsoft Purview with broader security and operational frameworks.
• Develop and maintain data governance standards, policies, and procedures.
• Provide architectural guidance and strategic recommendations to stakeholders.
• Facilitate knowledge transfer and mentoring of internal teams.

Minimum 4 years' experience in Data Security, Data Protection, and Microsoft Security technologies.

• Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview.
• Proven experience implementing enterprise-grade Data Loss Prevention (DLP) solutions.
• Strong understanding of Microsoft 365 security architecture.
• Experience securing both structured and unstructured data across hybrid environments.
• Strong consulting, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Advantageous Experience

• Experience delivering full Microsoft Purview implementations within large enterprise environments.
• Experience working within highly regulated industries.
• Knowledge of data privacy and regulatory compliance frameworks, including POPIA and GDPR.
• Experience integrating Microsoft Purview with Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Entra ID, and related security technologies.
