Legal Advisor - Renewable Energy

Our client is seeking a commercially minded Legal Advisor to provide comprehensive legal support within a dynamic renewable energy environment. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with project development, construction, finance, and asset management teams while supporting the delivery of major renewable energy initiatives across South Africa.

Requirements

• LLB or BCom Law qualification with further studies in business advantageous.
• Minimum 5–6 years of legal experience gained in private practice or an in-house role.
• Demonstrated experience in renewable energy, power generation, or IPP projects.
• Strong knowledge of commercial contracting and project transaction structures.
• Excellent negotiation, drafting, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet demanding project timelines.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal advice on renewable energy projects and business operations.
• Draft, negotiate, review, and manage a broad spectrum of commercial and project agreements.
• Support project development activities from origination through to operations.
• Assist with acquisitions, joint ventures, partnerships, and project financing transactions.
• Evaluate legal risks and recommend effective mitigation strategies.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting the renewable energy sector.
• Manage relationships with external legal service providers.
• Support litigation and claims processes where required.
• Ensure adherence to governance, compliance, and corporate policies.
• Develop legal guidance and training materials for operational teams.
