Mine Planner (Grading C4)
Job specification
- Matric certificate (with math and science)
- Diploma in Mining Engineering or related qualification
- Advance certificate in Drafting, MineRP, Mine Design & Scheduling
- 4–5 years’ experience in mine planning
- Exposure to surface and/or underground mining operations (advantageous)
- Basic understanding of mine planning principles and production processes
- Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g. MineRP CAD and Microstation)
- Computer literacy (Advanced MS Excel)
- Proficient in English and any other of 11 official languages
- South African driver’s license
- South African Citizenship
- Clear Criminal Record
- Medically fit for work in a mining environment
Responsibilities
- Develop short-term mine schedules, layouts, and sequencing to support safe and efficient operational execution.
- Design and optimise pit layouts, sequencing and production schedules.
- Integrate geological and survey data into mine planning and scheduling
- Use mine planning and scheduling software to develop and update operational plans (e.g. MineRP CAD, Microstation).
- Monitor plan compliance and adjust schedules based on operational requirements and constraints.
- Collaborate with geological, surveying and production teams to ensure aligned planning outputs.
- Provide planning inputs to support decision-making, reporting and operational performance improvement.
- Support drill-and-blast design, material movement planning, and production execution activities.
- Perform production data analysis to support forecasting, optimisation, reconciliation, and reporting against planned targets.
- Compile planning reports, drawings, maps, and presentations for management and operational stakeholders.
- Ensure all mine planning activities are conducted in compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act, applicable codes of practice, environmental requirements, and internal mine standards.
- Execute all work in accordance with prescribed standards, specifications, and best-practice guidelines.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing planning accuracy, operational efficiency, and cost optimisation.
