Mechanical Designer (FMCG Machinery) - Durbanville, Cape Town - Salary: R20 000 - R30 000 PM (Depending on experience) About the Role Are you a skilled Mechanical Designer with a passion for seeing your concepts come to life? A leading engineering firm specializing in high-speed FMCG machinery is looking for a mid-level Mechanical Designer to join their technical team. In this role, you won''t just be tweaking old drawings-you will own the full design process from the initial concept brief straight through to fabrication and commissioning support. If you love solving complex mechanical puzzles and driving production efficiency, this is for you. Key Responsibilities Full-Lifecycle Design: Own the design process from concept brief to final product, creating detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using Autodesk Inventor. Data & BOM Management: Maintain complex assemblies, revisions, and precise Bills of Materials (BOMs) within Autodesk VAULT. Innovation & Improvement: Assist with prototype testing, resolve manufacturing hurdles, and suggest upgrades to improve machine uptime and efficiency. Collaboration: Partner with electrical engineers, production teams, and clients to translate complex requirements into buildable, high-performance designs. Compliance: Ensure all machinery designs meet strict safety, quality, and industry regulatory standards. Requirements Education: Relevant Mechanical Engineering qualification, diploma, or degree. Experience: 2-5 years of dedicated experience designing industrial or FMCG machinery. Technical Skills: Proficient in Autodesk Inventor and VAULT. Strong knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), material selection, and fabrication processes. Mindset: A collaborative team player with a sharp, analytical problem-solving mindset.
