The Radiation Protection Agency (RPA) is a statutory body responsible for regulating the safe use of ionizing radiation to protect people and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation in Lesotho.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory-based radiation measurements for occupationally exposed workers and environmental radiation monitoring.
  • Manage issuance, collection, and tracking of personal dosimeters for all authorized radiation workers.
  • Perform routine calibration and functional checks of dosimetry laboratory equipment.
  • Participate in traceability assurance and inter-laboratory comparison exercises.
  • Ensure all laboratory activities comply with radiation safety procedures.
  • Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of dosimetry readers and associated equipment.
  • Assist in research, technical investigations, and specialized laboratory projects.
  • Perform any other duties assigned from time to time.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree with Physics and/or Chemistry, or Health Physics.
  • Postgraduate Education Course in Radiation Protection (PGEC) will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • At least three (3) years of experience in a radiation-related field.
  • Basic knowledge of radiation safety principles and regulatory frameworks.
  • Basic understanding of radiation detection mechanisms.
  • Basic knowledge of Thermoluminescent Dosimetry (TLD) and/or Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) dosimetry systems.
  • Experience in regulatory activities will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to operate and maintain radiation detection instruments.
  • Ability to prepare reports, analyse data, and maintain laboratory records.

Remuneration

The successful candidate will be offered a competitive package in accordance with the Agency’s terms and conditions of service.
