Career Opportunity: Senior Accountant – Currency Processing

The Central Bank of Lesotho invites applications for the position of Senior Accountant – Currency Processing.

The role is responsible for managing and overseeing the end-to-end processing, authentication, verification, sorting, and destruction of banknotes to ensure the integrity, efficiency, and accuracy of the Bank’s currency management operations.

Areas of Responsibility

Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily banknote processing activities, including sorting, authentication, fitness classification, and destruction to meet processing targets
Ensure complete reconciliation of currency processed, destroyed, and held in custody
Oversee currency processing operations and maintenance of unprocessed vault stock
Provide periodic reports on sorting statistics and machine operational efficiency, including monitoring of destruction levels, counterfeit detection, and clean note levels
Reconcile data feeds from BPS M7 processing machines with the vault management system
Oversee the operation and maintenance of currency processing machines and ensure staff competence in their use
Maintain a strong system of internal controls to safeguard currency under custody
Liaise with commercial banks to ensure the quality of currency verification processes and effective resolution and escalation of issues
Collaborate with the Reconciliations and Assurance Section to investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Accounting or a related field

Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in cash operations, banking, or similar functions
