We are seeking an experienced

IT Data Architect to join a leading organisation in the insurance and financial services sector, based in Sandton on a permanent role.

POSITION INFO

What you will be doing: Design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance Azure-based data architectures aligned to enterprise and regulatory requirements. Develop and govern conceptual, logical, and physical data models across multiple business domains. Lead data modernisation initiatives, including migration from legacy systems to cloud-native data platforms. Architect and maintain data solutions using Azure services such as Azure SQL, Synapse, Cosmos DB, Data Lake, Data Factory, Databricks, and Dataverse. Define and enforce enterprise data governance standards, including data lifecycle management, metadata management, and lineage tracking. Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks such as POPIA and GDPR, as well as internal governance and security standards. Enable enterprise analytics and business intelligence solutions using Power BI, Azure Analysis Services, and Azure Machine Learning. Support semantic data modelling, KPI standardisation, and enterprise reporting frameworks. Provide architectural guidance for data integration across Microsoft 365, Power Platform, and Dynamics 365 ecosystems. Implement CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) to support automated and scalable data delivery. Establish data quality, observability, and monitoring frameworks using Azure Monitor, Purview, and related tools. Collaborate with enterprise architects, engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver aligned data solutions. Participate in governance forums and provide mentorship to junior architects. What we are looking for: Bachelor's degree (BCom, BSc, or equivalent) in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. 7+ years' experience in enterprise data architecture roles. Proven experience delivering large-scale cloud or hybrid data platforms. Strong experience in Azure data services (SQL, Synapse, Cosmos DB, Data Lake, Data Factory). Solid expertise in data modelling (dimensional modelling, star/snowflake schemas, semantic layers). Strong background in data governance, data quality, MDM, and data observability frameworks. Experience with Power BI and enterprise analytics solutions. Strong understanding of cloud security, compliance, and regulatory frameworks (POPIA, GDPR). Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure-as-Code. Experience in insurance or regulated financial services environments will be highly advantageous.
