Position Summary
Velocity Trade is a global financial services provider seeking a technically capable and motivated Intermediate Systems Engineer to join our infrastructure team.
This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong Linux foundation who is developing expertise in automation, cloud infrastructure, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC). You will work alongside experienced engineers supporting and enhancing the infrastructure that powers our global trading platforms.

Key Responsibilities Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Assist in the deployment and management of infrastructure using Terraform and Ansible.
- Contribute to the ongoing automation of infrastructure provisioning and configuration management.
- Follow Infrastructure as Code best practices under the guidance of senior engineers.
Automation & CI/CD
- Support the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines.
- Help automate operational and infrastructure tasks to improve efficiency and consistency.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives across the infrastructure estate.
Linux Systems Engineering
- Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot Linux-based systems supporting business-critical applications.
- Monitor system performance, investigate issues, and assist with root cause analysis.
- Support high-availability platforms and services.
Cloud & Hybrid Infrastructure
- Assist in managing AWS and Azure environments alongside on-premise infrastructure.
- Support cloud-based services, networking, and security controls.
- Participate in cloud transformation and modernisation initiatives.
Monitoring & Observability
- Assist in maintaining monitoring and alerting platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, and Zabbix.
- Support proactive monitoring and incident response activities.
- Help improve visibility into infrastructure and application performance.
Security & Compliance
- Support secure system configuration and operational practices.
- Contribute to infrastructure compliance initiatives aligned with ISO 27001 and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in vulnerability remediation and security improvement projects.
Networking & Connectivity
- Work with the infrastructure team to support network connectivity, VPNs, firewalls, DNS, routing, and performance optimisation.
- Assist with troubleshooting cross-platform infrastructure issues.
Documentation & Collaboration
- Maintain infrastructure documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate closely with senior engineers, service providers, and internal stakeholders.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn, ask questions, and continuously improve technical skills.
Key Requirements
2-4 years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure, or a related technical role
Strong Linux administration skills. Candidates must be comfortable working primarily from the command line, troubleshooting services, analysing logs, and managing system performance.
Exposure to Infrastructure as Code concepts and a willingness to develop Terraform expertise.
Experience with automation tools such as Ansible.
Basic scripting ability in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
Familiarity with AWS or Azure cloud platforms.
Understanding of networking fundamentals including DNS, routing, VPNs, firewalls, and load balancing.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose infrastructure and system issues.
Exposure to monitoring and observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or Zabbix.
Familiarity with virtualisation technologies such as VMware or similar platforms.
Demonstrated curiosity and a passion for learning new technologies and automation techniques.
Nice to Have
Hands-on Terraform experience in either a production or lab environment
Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker
Exposure to Kubernetes or container orchestration platforms
Familiarity with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, or Octopus Deploy
Exposure to SQL or NoSQL database platforms
Experience with SAN storage technologies such as Pure Storage, Lenovo, Dell EMC, or similar
Exposure to high-availability, disaster recovery, or multi-site infrastructure environments
Experience within financial services, fintech, trading, or other highly regulated industries
