NOW RECRUITING · POSTDOCTORAL POSITION (Metal Hydrides for Next-Generation Solid-State Energy Storage)

Computational phase identification · Materials engineering · Additive manufacturing

Ph.D in Material & Metallurgical Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering Duration: 12 – 24 Months

PROJECT OVERVIEW

  • We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to advance computational identification of thermodynamically stable phases in metal hydride systems, with the goal of discovering optimal materials for hydrogen-based solid-state energy storage and exploring their fabrication via additive manufacturing.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• PhD in materials or mechanical engineering, or closely related field

• Deep expertise in metal hydrides and hydrogen–metal interaction mechanisms

• Proficiency with computational tools for phase identification (e.g. DFT, CALPHAD, ML potentials)

• Strong understanding of solid-state energy storage systems and thermodynamics

• Knowledge of efficient metal hydride candidates: AB₅, AB₂, BCC alloys

ADVANTAGE

Experience with additive manufacturing (SLM, EBM, binder jetting)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Use simulation & experimental tools to identify and characterise thermodynamically stable hydride phases

• Screen candidate alloy systems for high hydrogen gravimetric and volumetric density

• Collaborate on fabrication and experimental testing of selected materials

• Publish findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals

• Present research at international conferences

• Co-supervise postgraduate students within the research group
