Accountant: Reporting & Reconciliations

We've got an exciting, brand new opportunity at Ackermans as Accountant: Reporting & Reconciliations . Part of the Retail Reporting team, this role will report to the Finance Manager and be responsible for ensuring accurate, complete and timely financial reporting across fixed assets and selected balance sheet accounts. The role focuses on strengthening balance sheet integrity, supporting management reporting (including Exco packs), and contributing to Capex and depreciation planning.

We're a fully in-office team. This role is based at our Support Centre in Kuils River, Cape Town.

Qualifications required

  • Fixed Asset Management & Reporting
  • Prepare and analyse monthly and YTD Capex and Depreciation reports
  • Report on budget variances across Property, IT, DC and other Capex projects
  • Identify discrepancies and variances and implement corrective action
  • Prepare inputs for Exco packs and management reporting
  • Support preparation of Annual Financial Statements and movement schedules
  • Collate Capex budgets and contribute to 3-year planning process
  • Prepare depreciation budgets and forecasts
  • Monitor Fixed Asset Register (FAR) for additions, disposals and accuracy
  • Monitor WIP and prepaid accounts to ensure timely capitalisation
  • Provide ad hoc reporting and analysis to management
  • Maintain a master listing of all balance sheet accounts
  • Assign and track preparer and reviewer responsibility per account
  • Prepare and/or review balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts
  • Ensure all reconciliations are supported, complete, and accurate
  • Investigate and resolve reconciling items on a timely basis
  • Monitor aged balances and drive resolution
  • Ensure validity and appropriateness of balances across all assigned accounts
  • Maintain alignment between sub-ledgers, supporting schedules and the general ledger
  • Manage and reconcile intercompany accounts across entities
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve intercompany variances
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to align balances and ensure settlement
  • Maintain supporting documentation and audit trail for all balances
  • Prepare and provide information for internal and external audit requests
  • Respond to audit queries and resolve findings
  • Engage with finance stakeholders across business units
  • Online Payment authorization and Cash flow management
  • Review and approval of EFT payments
  • Providing Cash flow information

Essential

  • Bachelors Degree in Finance / Accounting or similar

Preferred

  • Completed articles
  • CA(SA) or CIMA certification

Experience required

Essential

  • At least 3 years’ relevant Finance experience
  • At least 2 years’ within Fixed Assets
  • Balance sheet reconciliations and controls
  • Financial reporting and month-end processes
  • Strong understanding of general ledger structures and financial controls

Preferred

  • Experience in working with the retail corporate environment
  • SAP experience

Knowledge & skills required

  • Expert knowledge of financial reconciliations

  • Knowledge of Accounting principles and practices
