Senior Specialist – Cyber Security Networks

Contract duration: 6 months

Location: Midrand

Role purpose

Support the design, development, and implementation of advanced cyber security controls across companies' mobile, fixed, satellite, cloud, and IoT networks to protect against evolving threats. Conduct risk assessments, collaborate with stakeholders, and contribute to the delivery of security solutions. Provide subject matter expertise to guide junior staff, and actively support the Principal Specialist in driving technical delivery and ensuring alignment with operational priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Support Security Implementation Contribute to the design and execution of cyber security strategies for mobile, fixed, satellite, cloud, and IoT networks, applying SME-level knowledge to ensure resilience against advanced threats.
  • Assist Workstream Delivery Support the Principal Specialist in delivering technical activities across Enterprise domains—Enterprise CPE, Core Network, Network Management Systems, Office Connectivity, Cyber Security Controls, Monitoring & Analytics, and Measurement & Assurance—through scope definition, design input, deployment support, and quality review.
  • Cyber Risk and Compliance Support - Perform targeted risk assessments, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend mitigation measures, ensuring alignment with ISO27001, NIST, and applicable regulations.

Essential

Core competencies, knowledge, and experience

  • Matric / Grade 12 essential
  • 3-year Degree or relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a cyber security role focused on delivering business outcomes for Enterprise and IP networks
  • Strong understanding of cyber risk management and security frameworks, such as NIST, ISO 27001, and CIS Controls
  • In-depth knowledge of enterprise/fixed network technologies, including CPE, IP Core, and associated network management systems
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify, analyse, and resolve complex security issues in large-scale network environments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical

security posture assessment, integrating tools such as SIEM and NetFlow, and supporting second-line assurance validation.

  • SME Guidance and Team Collaboration Provide technical mentorship to junior cyber security team members, fostering collaboration and innovation while ensuring execution quality.
  • Act as a trusted technical adviser to the Principal Specialist concepts to both technical and non -technical stakeholders
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and governance functions
  • Strong organisational skills, with the capability to manage multiple priorities and deliverables concurrently

Desired

  • Industry certifications such as ISO 27001 Lead Implementer or Auditor/Practitioner, CISM, or CISSP are strongly preferred
  • Experience working in a multi-country telecom or large-scale enterprise environment
