Our client in Environmental/Construction Industry, requires the services of a competent Health and Safety Manager with an extensive amount of experience to join their team.
Key performance areas
- Ensure there is company-wide compliance with occupational health & safety legislation
- Provide strong leadership and guidance to promote a culture of safety and environmental awareness throughout the organisation.
- Manage all occupational health and safety legislation on all company sites where work activity is taking place
- Represent health & safety interests to management
- Ensure management is informed of all legislative requirements
- Monitor contractor compliance with occupational health & safety legislation
- Compiling and maintaining site specific OH&S Files as per client specification/requirement
- Identify health and safety training required within the organisation
- Report all OH&S deviations
- Collaborate with relevant on-site personnel to continuously improve Health &Safety management processes and systems
- Schedule and conduct site inductions
- Conduct Health and safety meetings and progress meetings (internal and external)
- Identify required OH&S medicals
- Conduct occupational health and safety audits and inspections
- Participate during external audits and inspections
- Review occupational health and safety performance and trends
- Maintain required records
- Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments as per the documented HIRA procedure
- Work closely with the Director of Management Systems to implement ISO standards (9001, 14001 and 45001) throughout the company and maintain ISO certification
- Monitor, investigate and review Health, Safety and security incidents and recommended improvements to relevant stakeholders
- Review health and safety OH&S policies, processes and procedures
The successful candidate must have
- Matric with a National Diploma/B.Tech or relevant tertiary qualification
- Must have at least 10+ years’ experience in managing health and safety systems within an Environmental or/and Civil Construction sector
- OHS certifications would be advantageous (e.g. NEBOSH, SAMTRAC)
- Registered with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP)
- Must have exposure to the Mine Health and Safety Act
- Exposure to ISO systems (9001, 14001, 45001) would be advantageous Excellent computer literacy (MS Office – Outlook, Word & Excel)
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills
- You must be competent in handling mild stress and work pressure
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment
- Must have strong time and project management skills
- Excellent at building and maintaining collaborative working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders across all levels of business
- Must have the ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment
- Must have a driver’s licence and own reliable transport
- Valid Occupational Medical Certificate of fitness
