AVI’s Logistics Support Services division seeks to attract an experienced individual to take on the role of a Facilities Maintenance Technician who will be based in Redhill, Durban. This role will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the distribution centre’s infrastructure, equipment, and building systems. This role will also perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs, minimize downtime and support operational productivity.

Key Performance Areas

Maintenance

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on facility infrastructure, including lighting, plumbing, electrical systems, doors, locks, furniture, and minor building works.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, identify defects, and compile maintenance snag lists to ensure a safe and well-maintained environment.
  • Carry out painting, tiling, demarcation, signage installation, and general upkeep of facilities and material handling equipment (MHE).
  • Maintain and repair access gates, steel structures, barriers, loading docks, and related site infrastructure.
  • Support fleet maintenance activities, including minor vehicle and trailer repairs, fitting licences, registration plates, dangerous goods signage, reflector tape, and roof support poles.
  • Assist with vehicle decommissioning activities, including the removal of company branding and replacement of damaged components.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance breakdowns and perform corrective actions to minimise operational disruptions.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and work logs.
  • Assist with the installation, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance of new equipment and facility assets.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are completed in accordance with safety, quality, and operational standards.

Facility and Fleet Upkeep

  • Maintain structural elements such as:
    • Floors, walls, roofs, and ceilings
    • Doors, gates, and access systems
    • Repair racking, shelving, and workstations
  • Ensure office, warehouse, and common areas are fully functional.
  • Minor truck repairs such as replacing of bulbs, minor repairs to load body, etc.

Electrical and Plumbing (Basic)

  • Perform minor electrical repairs (lighting, switches, and outlets).
  • Address basic plumbing issues (leaks, blockages, fixtures).
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards when working on systems.
  • Coordinate licensed professionals where required.

Health, Safety and Compliance

  • Identify hazards and unsafe conditions and take corrective action.
  • Ensure emergency exits, fire equipment, and alarms are operational.
  • Support health & safety audits and compliance checks.
  • Adhere to OSHA / local safety regulations and company policies.
  • Promote a strong safety culture within the facility.

Contractor and Vendor Coordination

  • Escort and supervise contractors’ onsite.
  • Ensure work is performed safely and according to specifications.
  • Verify completion and quality of outsourced maintenance work.

Inventory and Tools Management

  • Maintain inventory of maintenance parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Monitor stock levels and request replenishment.
  • Ensure tools are properly maintained and stored.

What It Takes to Succeed

Experience that set you up for success

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience of maintenance experience (preferably in a warehouse or industrial environment).

Qualifications & Certifications that will contribute to your success:

  • Completed Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Technical diploma or certificate in Maintenance, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Welding certification.
  • Working at heights certification.
  • Operator Competency Certificate for a Mobile Elevating Work Platform.
  • Code B driving license.
