Job summary

MQ System Programmer is responsible for providing software support and technical guidance to system programmers, operations staff, and application developers in the evaluation, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of MQ and systems and applications interacting with MQ. Managing and supporting the MQ environment across multiple development, test, and production environments.

Overview of the role and requirements

  • Mainframe SYSPROG and/or MQ SYSPROG experience
  • Deep knowledge of IBM MQ queue manager architecture across distributed AND z/OS platforms
  • Knowledge of channel initiators, buffer pools, page sets, and dataset management, IMS triggers.
  • Ability to support MQ operations within mainframe environments, including coordination with z/OS system teams
  • Exposure to mainframe operational processes, scheduling, and change management practices
  • Experience working with mainframe specific tools and software such a TSO, ISPF, JCL etc.
  • Experience with programming in Cobol, REXX, Assembler would be advantageous.
  • Experience administering and supporting IBM MQ on Linux environments, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with Off-host multi-instance queue managers and high availability (HA) / disaster recovery (DR) setups

You will be responsible for

  • Monitoring: Setup monitoring and alerting to detect delays/issue in respective environments
  • Reporting: Administer Change order, incidents and requests on SNOW for MQ team.
  • Documentation: Maintaining system documentation and updating operational procedures.
  • Operations Support: Support operations in ensuring environments are available and stable
  • Application support: Assist application developers MQ actions to support application requirements.
  • Channel support: Provide support to clients and channels for off host MQ Clients installations
  • Collaboration: Collaboration within the MQ and Mainframes teams to increase skills and competencies in specific areas of interest.
