Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Farm Manager, the incumbent is responsible for preventative maintenance of farm machinery (tractor, combine harvesters and all types of implements) and agricultural farm operations.

- 1.1 Checks water, oil and fuel in the tractor daily before operation for refilling when necessary.
- 1.2 Cleans air filter, battery terminals regularly to ensure efficient functioning.
- 1.3 Performs minor services of farm machinery for efficient functioning.
- 1.4 Cleans, greases and stores tractor, combine and farm implements after each use to reduce damage due to natural factors such as rust.
- 1.5 Checks that nuts are tied and tyre pressures for efficient functioning of all machinery for pressure and loose bolts and rust.
- 1.6 Fills logbook daily for machinery hours, mileage, and fuel and oil records.
- Agricultural Farm Operations
- 2.1 Inspects fields (for presence of rocks, proximity to gullies, etc.) prior to any farm/field operation to avoid machinery breakdowns.
- 2.2 Prepares land (tillage, soil pulverization- harrowing, ditching, rotovating etc.) on main station and sub stations planting.
- 2.3 Cultivates land for weed control and aeration to enhance crop development.
- 2.4 Carries out field operations (e.g. primary and secondary tillage, crop harvesting, silage and hay-making, milling farm produce etc.) as requested to enhance agricultural production.
- 2.5 Sprays crops for insect pests, plant diseases and weeds to minimize infection.
- 2.6 Harvest and hauls farm produce to facilitate data collection and sale.
- 2.7 Mows in and around the farms at main and sub-stations for cleanliness.
- 2.8 Checks condition of crops to be harvested (crops moisture content) to avoid accidents, serious machinery breakdown, poor work and damage to crops.
- Reporting
- 3.1 Fills daily operations’ worksheets and submit them to Accounts sections to facilitate revenue collection and for accountability.
- 3.2 Reports all major and minor machinery service requirements required for efficient functioning.
Compensable Factors
- Job Specification
- COSC OR Junior Certificate.
- Experience: Two years (2) driving experience for COSC holders, three years (3) driving experience for Junior Certificate holders (accident free records), plus valid agricultural machinery (tractor, combine etc.) drivers/operator’s license.
